— The Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director Lori Hock has announced that Owen Chambers, a member of the varsity football team coached by Ryan Baldock, is the “Athlete of the Week” for the period ending Sept. 29.
Owen is a second-year starting linebacker. He leads the team in tackles (29), has forced two fumbles and recorded a sack through the first four games of the season.
"Aside from his tremendous play on the field," Baldock said in the school's press release announcing the selection, "Owen is an outstanding leader. He not only displays his leadership vocally both on and off the field, but he is constantly setting a positive example by his actions for his peers.
"As far as his athletic ability," the head coach added, "Owen is one of the most consistent players we have on our football team. He is all over the field making plays regularly. He is tenacious when he blitzes and he is cautious in his coverages.
"Whether in the weight room, at practice, or in a game, his effort is always 100 percent," Baldock noted. "His work ethic and commitment to excellence is why he has become a focal point of the Monroe-Woodbury Football defensive and special team units."
