Goshen competes in winter championships

    GOSHEN-The following Goshen Central High School student/athletes competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships: • Ski Championships — The State Ski Race was held at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua. Ninth-grader Robert Burke finished in 15th place overall in the Giant Slalom and 16th place overall in the Slalom. This is the second year in a row that Robert qualified and competed in the New York State Championships for Goshen High School. • Wrestling Championships — The State Championships were held at the Pepsi Arena in Albany. Dimitri Laurant, 11th grade, in the 135-pound weight class, won his first round match, then lost a competitive match in overtime, 6-4, in the Quarterfinal round. This was Dimitri's first time competing in the New York State Wrestling Championships and the first Goshen High School wrestler in eight years to win a Section IX Title, which qualified him for the state championship. • Indoor Track Championships — The state meet was held at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University. Lynn St. Lawrence, 12th grade, competed in the pole vault and finished with a height of 10 feet 6 inches, finishing in fifth place overall. This was Lynn St. Lawrence's second trip to the state championships. F.Y.I.: Nasim Siddeeq, 11th grade, competed in the Triple Jump with a jump of 42 feet 8 and 1/4 inches, finishing in 11th place overall. This was the first time both athletes competed in these events at the State Indoor Championships.
