CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Soccer team played its first home game of the year on Tuesday afternoon, taking on the Dragons of Cornwall High School.
The Crusaders entered the game having beaten both Washingtonville 3-1 and Minisink Valley 2-0 on the road after dropping the season opener against North Rockland.
The Crusaders dominated both time of possession and scoring opportunities throughout the game. But with under 10 minutes to go in the game, the Crusaders had nothing to show for their efforts.
So it was a great relief when Kayla MacKenzie split through two Dragon defenders picked up the ball and buried it into the corner of the Dragons' net to give the Crusaders 1-0 lead late in the game.
The Monroe-Woodbury goalie tandem of Angela Fini in the first half and Emmy Hamann in the second half kept the Dragons off the board for the shut out.
The Crusaders' 1-0 victory brings their season record to 3-1 with their next game at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. against the Bushmen of Pine Bush.
