CENTRAL VALLEY — On Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 4, the Crusaders took on the Wildcats of Warwick of in non-league match in Central Valley.
Both teams entered the game leading their divisions - the Crusaders are in first place in Division 1 and the Wildcats lead Division 2.
In a very tough defensive struggle the game was decided on a penalty kick 4:20 into the second half.
After the Crusaders were called for a foul in their box, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick and Evan Liguori drilled a shot past the diving Dylan McDermott to give the Wildcats the lead.
The Crusaders mounted some serious attacks after the PK but no matter how many shots or serious scrambles in front of the Wildcat goal they came up empty handed.
The Crusaders defense played a strong game, limiting the Wildcats scoring opportunities.
The Crusaders and the Wildcats appear to be on a collision course a may meet again in the Section 9 playoffs in the next few weeks.
The 1-0 loss brings their season record to 7-2-2.
Their next game will be on Friday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. in Pine Bush.
