Crusaders fall to Kingston 7-4 in key varsity softball game

CENTRAL VALLEY — On a beautiful, sunny Wednesday afternoon, May 2, the Crusaders hosted the Tigers of Kingston in an important OCIAA Division 1 game.
The Crusaders enter the game on a five-game winning streak including a 4-3 victory over FDR on Saturday afternoon to win the tournament in Hyde Park.
The Crusaders struck first when Madison McGee hit a solo home run over the right center field fence in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers answered in the fourth when they scored four runs on four hits to take the lead 4-1.
The Crusader responded with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when Samantha Ryan and Jessica O’Brien drove in runs with singles.
But the Tigers put the game out of reach when they scored three more runs in the top of the sixth on two hits and two Crusader errors.
Cymonne Rios finished the Crusaders scoring by hitting her first home run of the year over the left field to cut the Tiger lead to three in the bottom of the sixth.
The Tigers snuffed out the Crusaders' two- hit rally in the bottom of the seventh to hold on for the 7-4 victory.
The loss brings the team's season record to 9-3. Their next scheduled game will be on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Maybrook to take on the Valley Central Vikings.
