— Dylan McDermott, the goalie for the Monroe-Woodbury Boys Varsity Soccer Team coached by Ken Clearwater, is the high school's “Athlete of the Week” for the period ending Oct. 6, 2017, Athletic Director Lori Hock has announced.
"Dylan is our starting goalie and has been an integral part in our early season success," Clearwater said in the school's press release announcing McDermott's selection. "Our record as of right now is 7-1-2 and Dylan has kept shutouts in eight of our games. In our games against Yorktown, NFA, Arlington and Kingston he made numerous huge saves to keep those teams off the scoreboard and help us either win or tie those games.
"His progress as a player and leader has been a joy to watch," the coach added. "He is cool, calm and collected in every situation and his demeanor has been vital in a number of highly difficult situations.
"He is also a fantastic student with an overall A average in a number of incredibly difficult classes," Clearwater concluded. "He is a wonderful young man and a great player, he is thoroughly deserving of the M-W Athlete of the week."
