On a cloudy and cold Wednesday April 16 morning, the Monroe-Woodbury and Pine Bush Varsity Softball teams lined up for an important league game in Central Valley.

The Crusaders came into the game with a 4-0 record after beating Kingston in their last game 13-1. Pine Bush showed up with a 2-2 record.

Pine Bush got off to a three-run lead in the third and then added four more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

The Crusaders responded in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. Dani Gunning doubled and scored on a double by Isabella Brelesky and she scored on a single by Callie Exarchakis.

In the top of the seventh Pine Bush added three more runs to take a commanding 10-2 lead.

The Crusaders were not finished.

Brelesky opened the bottom of the seventh inning by reaching first on a Pine Bush error. She then reached second on a single by Nadia Jemison. With two runners on Callie Exarchakis singled to right to load the bases.

Up stepped Cori Exarchakis who drove a shot over the left field wall for a grand slam to cut the Pine Bush lead in half.

That’s where the Crusader rally ended, though, and the Bushmen had a 10-6 victory.

The Crusaders loss brings their season record to 4-1.
