HYDE PARK — The Monroe-Woodbury Boys Varsity Basketball Team traveled to Hyde Park on Tuesday, Dec. 5, to start the season against the Presidents of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School.
The Presidents came out hot and scored the first 10 points in the game before Robert Vacco knocked down a three-point shot to get the Crusaders going.
The Crusaders battled back and by the end of the first quarter had cut the Presidents lead to a single point.
In the second quarter, an inspiring one-handed jam by Crusader Brandon Adams brought the crowd to its feet and helped the Crusaders take a lead into the half.
In the third quarter, the Presidents got right back into the game and wrestled the lead back from the Crusaders as the game began to get very heated.
In the fourth quarter, the Crusaders battled back to tie the game behind the clutch shooting of Chance Green.
But the Presidents hung on for the non-league victory.
The Crusaders '57-54 loss brings their record to 0-1 on the season.
The Crusaders next game was Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Minisink Valley.
