All eight fall M-W varsity teams earn 'Scholar Athlete Team' title

CENTRAL VALLEY — All eight Monroe-Woodbury High School fall varsity teams, represented by 199 athletes, have earned the 2017 “Scholar Athlete” title from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA).
Scholar-Athlete teams require that 75 percent of a team's roster have a grade point average of 90.00 or above.
The teams were boys cross country; girls cross country; football; boys soccer; girls soccer; girls swim; girls tennis; and volleyball.
This is the 26th year the NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc.
“I am so proud of our athletes, not only for giving 100 percent day in and day out on the field, track, court or pool, but for striving for excellence in the classroom as well," M-W Athletic Director Lori Hock said in the district's press release announcing the achievement. "These scholar-athletes epitomize our district’s mission of helping students achieve their true potential.
"Congratulations to our students, teachers, coaches and all members of the Monroe-Woodbury community who provide instruction, guidance and support for our amazing students," Hock added. "It’s a great day to be a Crusader!”
