TUXEDO — In a “Dream Team” alumni match up held in Tuxedo over Thanksgiving weekend, former George F. Baker High School female basketball players gathered for a spirited game that was decided in overtime.

Before the game, flowers were presented to honorary captains and first cousins Margaret Mottola Iannone and Tina Mottola Kusion, who starred at Baker in the mid 1930s. Their team won more than 110 straight games.

The alumni competition featured four women who had played on state championship teams and four who had reached the state semifinals.

There also were some interesting match ups:

Sisters Trish Campion Jones and Maureen Campion Joseph on the white team opposing sisters Erika Sovak Stricker and Katie Sovak in red.

Laurie Barone LeForte, Class of 1979, and her daughter, Kristen LeForte, Class of 2009, competed as teammates for the first time.

The event was organized by Baker girls varsity basketball Coach Dave Powers and hosted by current team members.

Former coach John Lauro, other alumni players and many fans cheered the teams on from the stands.

In the end the sore muscles were outnumbered by the smiles.
