Albany - State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland-Orange) honored Daniel Freedman of Tuxedo on the Senate floor for his outstanding achievements. “Daniel is obviously an individual of enduring courage and accomplishment,” Carlucci said in a press release announcing his recognition of the young man. “It is fitting that we appropriately commend him for his numerous achievements and honor him as an example that we can all look up to.” At the age of 18, Daniel is already a source of inspiration to all those around him; born with Down syndrome, this remarkable young man maintains an uncompromising “can do” state of mind, determined to live life on his own terms. Among his many achievements, Daniel has become a Star Scout in Boy Scout Troop 46, an accomplished skier and horseback rider; he was also an active member of his high school Student Council. Daniel has been studying the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do for the past four years. His quest to earn his black belt has been one of his leading passions. In addition to martial arts, the young man has a great love for the culinary arts. His ambition is to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. Daniel also enjoys acting; since he was eight years-old, he has been in nine school plays while in the Tuxedo School District. In recognition of his extraordinary spirit and unwavering determination, Daniel was inducted as a member of the National Honor Society and “lettered” in football at Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque, N.J., where he was a tuition student. Daniel is graduating from George F. Baker High School this week.
