SaveMonroe: ‘We will continue to be there ... to hold them accountable'

| 21 Feb 2012 | 11:22

We would like to thank the residents of Monroe for their overwhelming show of support on Election Day. The encouragement and confidence you have shown us with your votes has been inspirational. Although we won overall in the districts outside Kiryas Joel, in some areas with a more than 2-to-1 margin, unfortunately the Kiryas Joel bloc vote was able to deliver the election back to the incumbents. Preliminary results show that we received essentially 100 percent of our support from the residents in the outside Town of Monroe, and the Villages of Harriman and Monroe, while the incumbents and Democratic candidates, respectively, owe 75 percent and 50 percent of their support to a bloc vote from KJ. We’re sure that there will be those people who will try to spin the numbers in many ways, but at the end of the day, in the Town of Monroe and Villages of Harriman and Monroe, the people have spoken. And we thank you for choosing us. We’re only sorry that it wasn’t enough to overcome the blocs. Additionally, we would like to comment on the disconcerting and unethical tactics used this week by people trying to subvert the election process. Unauthorized pre-recorded phone calls and unapproved fliers were distributed using the SaveMonroe name, but without our permission. It is just proof of the unethical and immoral lengths that certain individuals will employ to get what they want. It was shameful and we are outraged. Lastly, we would like to say that it’s our sincere hope that Mrs. Leonard, Mr. Weeks, and Mr. Martin will take a long hard look at the results and recognize that the people of Monroe want change. This town needs leaders who will prove that they work hard for all of us, not just those that elected them. SaveMonroe will continue to be there for you to hold them accountable. No matter what the final outcome was, we would again like to thank everyone who worked so tirelessly during this campaign and all the residents who came out and voted. You have made us proud. Thank you, Bob Purdy Kathy Parrella Theresa Budich
