SaveMonroe on commitment

To the editor: Actions speak louder than words. We would like to ask each resident to keep that in mind on Nov. 8 when you cast your vote for Monroe Town Board. At town board meetings over the course of the past two years alone, we have offered proposals for zoning changes that would help control growth. We have requested a plan to improve the business tax base to help decrease the tax burden of residential taxpayers by increasing commercial taxpayers. We have asked for an increase in tax relief programs for our senior citizens. We have proposed alternatives to rezoning industrial land for multi-family homes. We have lobbied for the removal of a builders density bonus and we have requested implementation of smart growth policies. We have opposed the KJ pipeline and called for action to be taken by our county legislators. We have advocated for real open space initiatives and permanent designation of town owned lands as park land. We have supplied examples of and asked for environmental laws to protect our wetlands, our views, and our neighborhoods. We have spoken up at public hearings, representing the interests of residents whose quality of life has been diminished. We truly believe that actions do speak louder than words and that there is a significant difference between saying you will do something and actually doing it - that there is a difference between just making campaign promises or having a proven track record of standing up for your community. We have been faced with an unreceptive government that has created barriers to the changes we would see implemented. If elected, those barriers will be removed and Monroe will once again have a government that truly represents its residents’ best interests and can get things done. But that can only happen if you choose your government on Election Day. If you choose the only team whose actions have proven their commitment to you. Vote Row D on Nov. 8.
