Remembering those who served and protected
The Orange County Law Enforcement Memorial in Goshen, just outside the Orange County Courthouse, lists the names of 24 Orange County law enforcement officers who made the supreme sacrifice. During a recent memorial service, roses were left by family and law enforcement, and a wreath was placed by the Fraternal Order of Police in their honor. The most recently added name was Detective John T. Young of the New York Police Department, a Highland Mills resident. Young was a first responder to Sept. 11 attacks and died of a lung related illness as a result of his service. His death was designated a line of duty by the NYPD, and his name was placed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. last year. The memorial was donated by Tom Sullivan, president and owner of Smith, Seaman and Quackenbush in Monroe.
