Red Cross recruiting volunteers

    GOSHEN-The American Red Cross in Greater New York is actively involved in meeting the challenge of provide continuing aid and comfort to the tens of thousands of survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Here are the job functions for which volunteers are urgently needed for the next two to three months: • Customer services: Handle administrative functions in New York City, such as working at the Volunteer Resources Department Phone Bank, staffing the Volunteer Information Center in the lobby of our headquarters, assisting evacuees at the Hurricane Katrina Welcome Center at City College or conducting interviews with volunteer candidates. • Caseworkers: Work directly with survivors of Hurricane Katrina, now in the New York area, to gather basic data, to assess client needs and to advocate on client's behalf. • Disaster Responders Deployed to the Gulf Region: Serve two-three weeks on assignment in the disaster-affected area of the Gulf Coast, staying in a staff shelter with limited running water and hardship conditions.
