Public hearing set

MONROE-A public hearing on a local law that would regulate the use of recreational vehicles in the town was tabled at the Monday's town board meeting and rescheduled. Local Law I-5 proposes to regulate the use of certain types of recreational vehicles on public and private property in the Town of Monroe. The Town Board proposed enacting this law as a proactive step in protecting the town from possible litigation resulting from injuries sustained by recreational vehicle riders on recently purchased town lands around Mombasha Lake. While ATVs and other off-road type vehicles do not currently present any problems in the town, this large tract of undeveloped land could attract off-road enthusiasts. Those in attendance who addressed the board concerning this law opposed it, citing the difficulty in enforcing such as law as a concern. The public hearing was closed and the matter has been tabled until the next meeting. In other business: • The Town Board voted to make itself the lead agency for the Town Hall/Library project. • Te Town Clerk's office received a $10,000 grant to purchase new software to facilitate the management of town records. An additional grant of $4,500 will be for the transfer of the volumes of paper records to microfilm. The next meeting of the Town Board is scheduled for 7:30 on Monday, Dec. 20, at the Senior Center.
