Project updates in Village of Monroe
Monroe - With the year drawing to a close, The Photo News asked Village of Monroe Building Inspector Jay Wilkens for updates on a series of recent proposals. Here’s his rundown: The old Marilyn in Monroe site next to Monroe Ford that was to be the site of a bank and Dunkin’ Donuts. Wilkens said absolutely nothing is happening, although you can grab a Cappuccino pretty soon at the Harriman Commons mall where that project is going full speed ahead. The old Feder’s site at the intersection of Route 17M and Stage Road; the excavation work being done at the site is for an environmental study required by a mortgage company. The old Roller Skating rink property next to Rallye Motors had gotten a major facelift. A plumbing supply company will occupy 60 percent of the building and the Rug Store the remainder. The James Motel site. The village turned down a proposal to building a senior citizen housing complex in favor of a higher tax ratable. The Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps building. Approval for a new building at the corner of Route 17M and Orchard Terrace (adjacent to Provident Bank) is expected shortly. Construction to begin in two to three months. The old bowling alley site on Route 17M. There had been speculation that a retail store was to built on the site, but nothing has been submitted to the planning board. A small strip mall is proposed for the old railroad station on Spring Street.
