Monroe - About 40 firefighters from the three companies in the Monroe Fire District participated in a joint extrication training drill this past Monday at the Mombasha fire house off Route 17M. Using four donated cars, the firefighters practiced cutting apart the vehicle, using a variety of tools. The volunteers often need to cut apart cars to remove injured victims, so these kinds of drills allow the firefighters to become familiar with the equipment and with each other. The vehicles are donated by the public as well as by Harriman Auto; after these drills, they are sent out for scrap or to be recycled. The three companies in the Monroe Fire District are Harriman, Lakeside and Mombasha.
