Monroe - Monroe police used a TASER to disable a man who was holding a knife to another man’s throat. According to police, officers responded to a medical call at JB McMinnions bar at 1:50 Thanksgiving morning. While tending to that person, a fight broke out on the outside deck. When officers separated the two, on pulled out a four-inch hunting type knife and went at the other person. Police said Corey M. Valle, of Wappingers Falls, held the knife about five to six inches from the throat of the other man, slightly jabbing it forward as if he was going to cut or stab the person. Officers hit Valle with the TASER. That caused him to immediately fall and drop the knife without getting anyone injured. Valle, 30, was charged four-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing and disorderly conduct and sent to Orange County Jail on $1,000 bail. “This story is one of the prime examples of why we carry the TASERS,” said Police Chief Dominic Giudice in a press release from the department. “Had it not been for the TASER, officers at the scene may have been forced to shoot Valle. But instead we were able to immediately disable him. He immediately fell to the ground and dropped the knife allowing our officers to safely take him into custody. No one, including Valle needed any medical treatment.” Thanksgiving proved to be a busy night elsewhere as officers responded to a number of bar fights, arresting four people. Three others were arrested on various warrants, one person was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana, two people for traffic-related incidents, and one for public exposure for urinating in public.
