Woodbury firefighters extinguish raging blaze at Highland Mills home
Highland Mills. No injuries were reported.
On the afternoon of January 17, the Woodbury Fire Department was called to a house on fire at 31 Owens Drive in Highland Mills. Upon their arrival, firefighters described encountering “heavy fire” that appeared to be focused primarily on one side of the building and requested a second alarm.
In a social media post, the fire department noted that all occupants had safely left the house prior to their arrival, but the house had two large propane tanks near it that caused the firefighters concern as the fire was drawing closer to them. In addition, that area of the village didn’t have a nearby hydrant, so a tanker task force was required.
According to the department, the fire was brought under control at around 2 p.m., roughly 45 minutes after their arrival. No injuries to any occupants or firefighters were reported.
“Our thoughts are with the homeowners,” The fire department stated. “We’d also like to thank all of the mutual aid who responded and aided in the operation.”
The long list of mutual aid companies the fire department thanked included Woodbury Community Ambulance, Woodbury Police, Monroe-Lakeside Fire and Rescue Company, Mombasha Fire Company, Harriman Engine Company, Kiryas Joel Fire Department, Tuxedo Park Fire Department, Sugar Loaf Engine Company, and Warwick EMS, among others.
