Newburgh man convicted in Maybrook gun case
Maybrook. Rudolph Davis now faces up to 15 years in prison.

On July 12, Rudolph Davis, 31, of Newburgh was convicted by a jury in Orange County Court of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced. Davis faces up to 15 years in prison when he is scheduled to be sentenced on October 17, 2024. Davis was remanded back to the Orange County Jail without bail following the jury’s verdict.
According to court records, on November 5, 2023, at around 1:05 a.m., Montgomery police responded to a complaint about someone menacing others with a gun in the village of Maybrook. The officers spotted a van matching the description in the complaint driving away from the location. When the police stopped the van, they found it to be operated by a woman, who was separately charged, while Davis was in the front passenger seat. Police then searched the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console. Davis allegedly had additional rounds matching the gun in his pocket, which also matched rounds located at the scene of the original incident.
DA Hoovler thanked the Town of Montgomery Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Davis. Hoovler also thanked the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police who assisted in the investigation.
“Lethal weapons in the hands of dangerous criminals are a recipe for disaster,” said Hoovler. “As the 40th conviction for felony gun possession in Orange County in the past year represents, our message is clear: we will not cease our pursuit of the illegal possession and use of firearms. Our community demands and deserves nothing less than this steadfast commitment. I applaud the often-dangerous work of law enforcement to investigate and arrest perpetrators such as the one convicted today.”
Hoovler also commended Senior Assistant District Attorney Christopher Kelly and Assistant District Attorney Anthony Molina who prosecuted the case.
