Fatal car crash reported in Woodbury
Woodbury. An 11-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles died from the crash.

On September 23, at around 8:30 p.m. the New York State Police from the Monroe barracks and the Town of Woodbury Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Route 6 in the town of Woodbury.
According to the troopers’ initial report, a 2020 Honda Accord, operated by Yeraldo Roa, 34, from Port Jervis, was traveling west on Route 6 when he crossed over into the westbound lane and allegedly struck two vehicles traveling east on their passenger side: a 2019 Infiniti SUV and a 2017 Nissan N20. Roa then reportedly continued to travel west in the eastbound lane and struck a Honda Odyssey head on.
Roa and an 11-year-old passenger were transported to Garnet Medical Center by ambulance. Roa was treated for facial injuries, broken bones, and possible internal injuries. The eleven-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the Infiniti, Michael Escalera, 43, from the Bronx, and his three passengers suffered minor injuries, per the police report. The three passengers were transported by ambulance to Garnet Medical Center for evaluation and released.
The operator the Nissan, Eric Schaper, 60, from the city of Peekskill was not injured.
The operator of the Honda, Marco Espinoza Chaves, 38, from the town of Monroe, and his passengers were transported by ambulance to St Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
This crash remains under investigation.
