Playoff action dominate Monroe Senior League play
Monroe - Loyal Tire took the first game of their best of three quarterfinal series with Pro Motion, 18-6. The offense was led by home runs from Shannon Gleeson, Pete Pisacano and Marty Diamond. Dave Heine pitched a complete game and had defensive help from Jerry Aherne and Pete Lanaro. Scott Petillo, Rob Winter and Manny Guella had a couple of hits apiece. Neil Winter and John Sullivan also had hits in the victory. Elsewhere in the playoffs: Tommy D's defeated the Captain's Table in game one of their best of three A Division semi-final series, 8-5. Tommy Gilbert pitched the win and was helped by the hitting of Nick Sansalone (two home runs, four RBI's), John Lawson (two hits, including a home run) and Bill Monahan (two hits and an RBI). J.B. McMinnions defeated Lang Allstate in game one of their best of three A Division semi-final series, 8-2. Mike Dowen was the winning pitcher and was helped by back-to-back home runs from Tom Scanlon and Rob Schepis. Rich Robinson also homered for J.B.'s and Dan Henderson hit one for Lang. FGFP got past Brazen Head Pub 7-4. Elliot Kornreich pitched the win and was helped by the hitting of Eddie Quinn, Paul Perasso and Paul Baum. The Brazen Head turned an unlikely triple play to squelch a bases-loaded inning by the winners. The Fat Boys won the first game in their playoff match-up with Billy Ball, 16-3. Bob Klopchin pitched the win and was backed by the four-hit (including a home run), four-RBI performance of Jeff Swedelson. Klopchin helped his own cause by going 3 for 3, while Dean "Sir Take-a-Pitch" Sefrin walked in each of his plate appearances. In elimination games, the Captains Table qualified for the A Division semi-finals by beating Budweiser 14-7 in eight innings. Kevin Gannon hurled the win and was helped by home runs from Ron Crover, Steve Dunn and John Murray. In the B/C elimination series, Billy Ball defeated CB Trucking, 14-5, and Monroe Jewelers/Jay's Deli edged Nebrasky Plumbing, 8-6.
