MONROE-Operation Clean Sweep in the Town of Monroe will take place on Saturday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are to meet in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Church at 26 Still Road at 8 a.m. Operation Clean Sweep is an Earth Day-related event sponsored by a committee of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. In Monroe, plans are to clean up litter in an area from the intersection of Route 17 and 17M in the Village of Harriman to the Bank of New York building and Wally's Ice Cream Parlor in the Village of Monroe. Residents who prefer to focus their efforts in their own neighborhoods should first come to Sacred Heart at 8 a.m. to speak with town Highway Superintendent Roy Montanye as to where the collected trash will be deposited so that it can be collected. Individuals, local businesses and organizations that would like to provide support or volunteer should visit www.MonroeCleanSweep.com for details or contact the Chamber of Commerce at (845) 567-6229.
