MONROE-Apparently, businesses that sell alcohol in Monroe are getting the message - Don't sell to minors. Only one out of nine failed a recent alcohol compliance check done by the Monroe Police Department. The legal age to purchase alcohol in New York is 21. On July 8, a 19-year old decoy was used by police to try and purchase alcohol at several establishments This was the second time in less than a year a compliance check was done by police. And, for the second time, a Rite Aid employee was charged with selling alcohol to a minor, a violation of the alcohol Beverage Control Law. The employee is to be appear in Monroe Town court at a later date. Monroe Police say the Route l7M drug store could have sanctions imposed by the New York State Liquor Authority which could include a fine, suspension or revocation of the business' alcohol license. Rite-Aid's Monroe manager would not comment on the charge. The police praised the businesses that complied with the law by asking for identification from the 19-year old and refusing to make the sale. They were: The Captains Table, JB McMinnions, Velvet Monkey, Brazen Head, Fat Boys, Bourbon St., Monroe Beer and Soda, and Eckerd's in ShopRite Place.
