One disc too many
MONROE - Village police on Wednesday morning were called to investigate the theft of $300 from the store safe at the Route 17M Sunoco. The missing store security tape, kept elsewhere, pointed them at employees and they began with 21 year-old Lazaro Pompa. Pompa was left alone briefly in an interview room, where a CD had been left. When cops returned the CD was gone. Pompa produced the CD from his pants upon questioning, explaining that he thought it was a copy of the store security tape he’d lifted. Police said Pampa went on to confess the recent theft as well as stealing several hundred dollars from the Sunoco over the past few weeks. Pampa, who was on probation from an earlier burglary, was charged with felony falsification of business records, three counts of petty larceny (including the theft of the cop’s CD), arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.
