NY announces sites for Sept. 11 exhibits
The pain, outrage and patriotism of the 2001 terrorist attacks will be on display along with ground zero artifacts in 30 cities and towns statewide. The state and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum announced Wednesday the locations of the exhibits, which will be open from Aug. 29 through the end of September as part of New York's 10th anniversary remembrances of 9/11. Artifacts from ground zero and expressions of grief sent after the 2001 terror attacks will be part of each exhibit. Many of the artifacts for "New York Remembers" come from the State Museum. "The New York Remembers exhibitions will allow many others around the state to join with the thousands of families who were directly affected as we pause and reflect on what was lost and our world has changed," said Tom Roger, father of Jean Roger, who was a flight attendant killed on American Airlines Flight 11 on Sept. 11, 2001. Gov. Andrew Cuomo urged all New Yorkers to visit the sites. "The 9/11 anniversary is going to be a powerful moment," Cuomo said. "It also is going to be a powerful moment to educate." The statewide exhibit won't have displays in New York City, but national events are scheduled there and the New York Historical Society plans displays.
