N.J. Transit customers reminded to report suspicious activity
NEWARK-In light of Thursday's apparent terrorist incident in London, N.J. TRANSIT is reminding its customers to report to the N.J. Transit Police Department any unattended packages or suspicious activity by calling 1-888-TIPS-NJT. All calls are investigated, and all information is confidential. N.J. Transit Police, together with New Jersey State Police and local law enforcement agencies, will be patrolling the system. The transit police continue to operate on a heightened state of alert, as it has since the September 11 attacks and the Madrid train bombings. Since Sept. 11, 2001, N.J. Transit Police have: Increased by 75 percent the number of uniformed and plainclothes police officers on patrol. Deployed additional N.J. Transit K-9 bomb detection teams. Established vehicular inspection checkpoints and barricades at major terminals and stations. Increased the use of electronic surveillance and detection systems.
