Rain closes M-W athletic fields Central Valley - All school athletic fields will be closed until Monday, May 23, due to the effect the torrential rains have had on them. According to a notice published on the school district’s Web site, the Monroe-Woodbury Buildings and Grounds Department has implemented a new procedure with regards to use of the athletic fields in the Central Valley Complex. Flags will be hung on the football field: Green flag indicates fields can be used. Red flag indicates the fields are not to be used. George F. Baker Tuxedo High School to honor fallen students and faculty on May 27 Tuxedo - A special Memorial Day program will be held at George F. Baker Tuxedo High School on Friday, May 27, from 2 to 2:45 p.m. to honor fallen military men and women and to help our students understand our role in honoring their memory. This ceremony will feature a special dedication to honor Scott A. Lynch, George F. Baker Tuxedo High School Class of 2006, and a member of 1st U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Force who was killed in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Oct. 6, 2010. According to a press release from High School Principal Denis Petrilak, part of the dedication will include the unveiling of a plaque to honor Lynch and other past students and faculty and staff members who have given their lives in the line of duty. The honored will include Samuel T. Morrow and Joseph J. Smith (killed in Viet Nam); Eric F. Nicholson (South Carolina state trooper killed in the line of duty in 2000); Louis E. Allen (Iraq); and Scott A. Lynch (Afghanistan). This ceremony will be held in the front of the high school building (in the gym, if it rains) and will be open to the general public. Photographs sought for new Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce Web site Monroe A new Web site for the forthcoming Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, is being developed by the Monroe-based web development company Progressive Element. The site will feature a virtual map of the greater Monroe area listing the area’s businesses. Officials said the Web site’s purpose will be to allow residents and local businesses to more easily locate each other and do business locally. Ronen Divon of Progressive Element is seeking local professional and amateur photographers from Monroe and regional/neighboring towns to contribute photographs to the up and coming site. Compensation for selected photographs will be in the form of online credits for the material contribution. Photographs can be from the entire region, past and present, color as well as black and white, year-round, nature and community. Photographers must have full copyrights for the images contributed.
