Nature Museum staffer named 2011 Outdoor Educator of the Year

    Cornwall — Environmental educator Carl Heitmuller of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall has been named 2011 Outdoor Educator of the Year by the New York State Outdoor Education Association. This award recognizes that Heitmuller has successfully used the outdoors to enrich curriculum and/or interpret the natural world in a way that has expanded the environmental appreciation of children or adults. Heitmuller is a full-time educator who has taught at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum for 15 years. He has acquired his impressive knowledge of wildlife and outdoor education through many years of experience. He holds an associates degree in liberal arts with a concentration in field biology and conservation from Orange County Community College. He also has been instrumental in the development of the museum’s camp program as well as the 30 programs that are presented to more than 9,000 school children each year.
