Museum Village unveils new exhibit of Civil War artifacts

Monroe Museum Village will re-open its Changing Exhibit Building on Saturday, Sept. 3, to showcase a special exhibit of Civil War artifacts. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, and the opening of the museum’s Civil War re-enactment weekend, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War have provided these special artifacts for viewing. There are early photos from the Grand Army of the Republic, an actual battlefield backpack together with some of the museum’s own treasures. After Labor Day, the museum is open weekdays for schools and tour groups by reservation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If the museum is scheduled for a group, the general public is also welcome during these hours. On weekends, in addition to specially scheduled events, we will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 845-782-8248 or e-mail info@museumvillage.org.
