Central Valley — Six Monroe-Woodbury High School musicians have been selected to perform in the New York State School Music Association’s 2011 All-State Music Festival in Rochester from Dec. 1 through 4: Jake Centra, bass in All State Mixed Chorus Daisy Epple, alto in All-State Women’s Chorus Lilliana Kulak, soprano in All-State Women’s Chorus Jisoo Kim, violoncello in All-State String Orchestra Stefanie Proulx, flute in All-State Symphonic Band Nancy Song, violin in All-State Symphony Orchestra Meanwhile, Erik Bjorkman was selected as a Violoncello alternate and could have been called upon to perform should a selected ensemble member been unable to participate. Being invited to All-State is the highest honor awarded to an 11th or 12th grade music student in New York. It recognizes excellence and achievement in music and mastery of their instrument or voice. In order to be eligible for All-State, students must have performed a Level VI solo at a NYSSMA Solo Festival last spring. The musical and technical requirements for solos in the Level VI category of music are collegiate level in difficulty. Students are evaluated and ranked by a certified NYSSMA adjudicator. Because of the highly competitive nature of these auditions, generally only students with scores of 100 are accepted to perform in an All-State ensemble, and even scoring 100 will not guarantee you a place in one of the seven All-State ensembles. Thousands of students audition for the festival.
