Monroe-Woodbury granted school tax payment extension
Central Valley Gov. Andrew Cuomo has granted the Monroe-Woodbury School District’s request to extend the due date for payment of school taxes without penalty until Oct. 21 That represents an extension of 21 days from the original due date of Sept. 30 for school tax payments, School Superintendent Edward Mehrhof said in a press release announcing the extension. Following Tropical Storm Irene, Cuomo declared a state of emergency in the area. That included an executive order to allow schools to participate in a 21-day extension of school taxes for the current year. In light of the damage and disruption the storm caused throughout Monroe and Woodbury, Mehrhof sent a request to participate. Verbal approval was received Wednesday from Albany. Similar tax payment extensions have been granted to the Warwick Valley and Washingtonville school districts. The district's 2011-12 total annual tax levy is $104.3 million. School officials do not anticipate that the extension will have any great impact on cash flow. The governor’s order applies equally to all taxpayers in the school district. Additional information, as well as a revised school tax calendar, can be found on the district’s Web site at www.mw.k12.ny.us. “It is the district’s hope that this measure will help mitigate some of the impact that this terrible storm has had on our community,” the superintendent said in his press release.
