MONROE-Monroe will wake up tomorrow to its 10th annual Cheese Festival. The Cheese Festival begins at 10 a.m. and continues until 6 p.m. in the downtown area of the Village of Monroe. The August date makes this the earliest Cheese Festival ever. Action in Monroe, the group that organized the event, is hoping that it will also be the best. A word to the wise - Don't plan on attending the wine and cheese party tonight. The traditional kick-off event for the Cheese Fest at Museum Village won't be held until Sept. 10. Here are some tips for enjoying the day at this year's Cheese Festival. • To avoid parking headaches, motorists can leave their cars at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Still Road and take the shuttle bus to the festival. The bus will be offering free transportation from noon until 5 p.m. • Look for the McCadam Cheese Tent near Village Hall tomorrow. McCadam has been making cheese since 1876 and is trying to help the public become reacquainted with its products. A representative from the plant in Chateaugay, N.Y., will be offering free samples all day. • There will be continuous entertainment at the Children's Corner, sponsored by the New York State Power Authority. • The ARC Realty Bandstand on Lake Street will feature continuous music. At the First Security Money Center sponsored bandstand on Millpond Parkway there will be a day of demonstrations. • While the celebration is in progress on Lake Street, Captain Lee Der Kranz n the festival mascot n will say "I do" with Chloe Cheddar in a virtual wedding on www.monroecheesefestival.com. People who log onto the site are welcome to suggest a location for the couple's honeymoon. It's a contest that offers a valuable prize for the winner. The Cheese Festival was the brainchild of the late Monroe Mayor Bob Bonney. It was started 11 years ago but was not held in 2001 after the 9/11 disasters. For additional information call 774-1
