To the editor: Members of the Monroe Police Benevolent Association would like to express their viewpoint on the upcoming Village of Monroe elections. Our members have a strong dedication to the safety of the residents of this growing village. It is no secret that the Village of Monroe is the busiest village in the fastest growing town in the fastest growing county within New York. Recently, the state Department of Criminal Justice Services, which oversees all police departments in New York, completed a study of the Monroe Police Department. This survey, based on 2003 statistics, recommended the Village of Monroe hire five additional patrol officers in order to continue to provide the current level of services. These services include patrol, criminal investigations, emergency medical services, bicycle patrol, child passenger safety program, DARE, VIN etch/watch your car program, the annual holiday toy drive for underprivileged children and many other community-oriented programs. The Monroe Police PBA believes all of these programs and services are essential to the safety and well-being of village residents and that any viable candidate for village office must recognize this. All candidates were invited to meet with the Monroe Police PBA’s executive board to discuss their goals and objectives to improve the safety and quality of life for village residents and businesses. After allowing all candidates the opportunity to express their viewpoints, the Monroe Police PBA overwhelmingly voted to support Jeffrey Peifer for mayor and Wayne Chan and James Purcell for village trustees. We feel these candidates have the best interests of the residents of the Village of Monroe at heart. Members of the Monroe Police PBA urge all Village of Monroe residents to join us at the Village Hall on March 21. Thank you in advance for your support. Andrew Loughlin Monroe Police PBA President
