Monroe - A Monroe resident has been charged with petty larceny in connection with the theft of $400 from an ATM machine at the M&T Bank on Route 17M on July 18. The resident, Douglas B. Grabow, 38, of Chatham Road, turned himself in to Monroe Police Headquarters at 12:55 p.m. on Friday, July 29. That same day, The Photo News ran a photograph of the suspect taken from the bank security camera and a story that detailed how a woman had used her debit card at the M&T bank on July 18, but left without taking the card. A short time later, a man used the same debit card to withdraw $400 and then left with the money and the card. The woman later returned and she reported the card missing to bank officials. After the article appeared, police received several phone calls about the suspect from the public, including one from a town of Woodbury police officer, according to information from Monroe Police Chief Dom Giudice's office. While Monroe police were following up on those leads, an attorney telephoned police, saying his client had noticed himself in The Photo News and "wanted to turn himself in for taking the money, stating that he knew would be identified," Giudice said in a press release. Grabow was released for a future Town of Monroe Court appearance on the misdemeanor charge.
