Monroe man held after high-speed chase

    Montgomery - A Monroe man has been charged with stealing a car and leading police on a 10-mile high speed chase before be was tracked down on foot by police dogs in the town of Montgomery. According to state police at Newburgh, troopers patrolling in the Town of Montgomery last week attempted to apprehend the driver of a 2003 Ford Taurus who police said had nearly struck a Department of Transportation flag person on Route 208. When the driver failed to comply with the troopers, a 10-mile pursuit at excessive speeds through the Town of Montgomery and the Village of Walden ensued, according to the state police press release. The vehicle was stopped in the Town of Montgomery, but the driver, identified as Leonard Dolson, fled on foot. Troopers, with assistance of the Town of Newburgh K-9 and the Village of Walden Police Department, captured Dolson a short time later. State police said the Taurus was reported stolen to the City of Newburgh Police Department on Aug. 24. Dolson, 30, of 5 Poplar Trail, Monroe, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony; fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned before Goshen Town Justice Thomas Cione and sent to the Orange County Jail without bail pending an Aug. 31 appearance in Montgomery Town Court.
