Monroe Free Library Director Marilyn McIntosh, left, and Friends of the Monroe Free Library President Diane Leviseur display the ceremonial $1,100 check recognizing the donation the library has made to the Washingtonville 5WTC Firefighters Memorial Fund. In recognition of the 10th anniversary of the remembrance of the 9/11 attacks, the library donated all fines collected during the week of Sept. 11 and earmarked them for the memorial fund. It’s also the 10th year the library has donated collected fines for the fund. McIntosh said many library patrons now wait until the collection drive to pay fines for overdue books and related materials knowing their fines will benefit the fund. This year, the Friends of the Monroe Free Library made a special donation of approximately $150 toward this effort, which is part of the $1,100 collected.
