Monroe Free Library gets tips on security
Monroe Keeping public buildings safe is of increasing concern in today’s world. The Monroe Free Library was recently visited by the students of the Security Careers Academy at BOCES in Goshen. The uniformed students reviewed the current security measures in place at the library at 44 Millpond Parkway, in order to prepare a Powerpoint presentation of their recommendations for updates. Afterward, security instructor Bob Decker and students Alex DeMoya and Stephanie Johnson reviewed security procedures with library director Marilyn McIntosh. “Our building may be old and in need of repair, but thanks to these energetic and motivated young people, we are able to learn about the latest advances in security, and put some of their suggestions in place,” said McIntosh. The academy prepares students for employment with governments or private concerns, as officers for the court, correctional facilities, security firms, firefighting and a host of other agencies. Decker leads the young people through the study of fingerprinting, criminal and civil law, CPR, crime prevention equipment, forensic science, defensive tactics and firearm safety.
