Monroe — The Monroe Democratic Committee issued the following statement late Thursday morning: "An anonymous eight-page leaflet using the name Protect Monroe is being distributed door-to-door in Monroe. None of the Protect Monroe candidates who are also our Democratic candidates knew of this flyer and under no circumstances agreed to having it published. Also, Ric Colon , councilman and member of the vacancy committee for Protect Monroe disavows any knowledge of this unauthorized publication "The Democratic Party takes pride in endorsing Dan Burke, Harley Doles, Christina Kiesel , Steve Milligram and Jim Guilick. Like their Republican opponents all are endorsed by other parties including the Conservative, Independence, Working families, Protect Monroe and the Taxpayer Protection lines. "Moreover, each candidate has received support from the more than 18,000 registered voters in the villages of Kiryas Joel/Monroe/Harriman and the unincorporated part of the town. Any claim that their candidates do no get town-wide votes and support is baseless and misleading. "We do not hide behind unsolicited flyers trying to twist political outcomes. The candidates are who you must decide can best represent you interests. Call them up. Ask them if they condone the were aware of this attempt to dupe the public that they were part of this smear campaign. They will tell you and so will the leaders of all the parties that the candidates are too decent and too civic-minded to be part of anything which undermines what elections are always about ... bringing out the vote and making you voices heard."
