Chester - In today’s economic times, you have to be brave to consider opening your own business. With unemployment rising and a recession looming, Steve and Robin Smith did their homework to determine a business the community would embrace and a company they could partner with who will supply the support and expertise; a well established and successful franchisor. On Saturday, Aug. 28, the Smith’s opened their own Just-A-Buck franchise in the Chester Mall on Brookside Avenue. Steve Smith has been in the mortgage industry since 1993 and has done well. Unfortunately, the economy forced him to look at additional opportunities. The couple, who live in Monroe, researched franchises before deciding on Just-A-Buck. “When the space next to ShopRite became available in Chester, we knew it was a perfect location,” Robin Smith said in a press release announcing the opening. “Many customers have complemented our clean, bright store and love the merchandise we carry.” Added her husband: “Robin manages the store and I help whenever I’m not busy with the mortgage business.” The new Just-A-Buck offers helium filled balloons, greeting cards and party supplies, health and beauty aids, baby products, housewares, hardware, candles, stationery, cleaning products, seasonal items, food, candy and many more “hidden treasures” all priced at only a dollar.
