Matiaotos seeks GOP Committee support in Monroe
To the editor: In response to Councilman Martin's letter to the editor last week, the only reason there will be a Republican Primary in Monroe is because the incumbents have stacked the deck against anyone who would challenge them. To become a candidate on the party line, you go before the party nominating committee and seek its endorsement. Councilman Peter Martin in his letter last week conveniently fails to mention that half of the Monroe Republican Committee is made up of spouses, relatives, close personal friends and allies of the incumbents. The other half is made up of Kiryas Joel representatives. What chance was there that this committee would choose Kathy Parrella and Theresa Budich as their candidates for Town Board over the incumbents? This is also the reason that I have chosen to seek a seat on the Republican Committee in District 12. It is time to end the nepotism and power-brokering that is rampant in our local government. The residents of District 12 (the Mansion Ridge area, Harriman Heights Road, East Mombasha, and other parts of Orange Turnpike) will have an additional section on the ballot to select an individual to represent the District's interests on the Committee. I am not a politician. I am a concerned citizen and a concerned Republican who urges residents to come out and vote on Primary Day, Sept. 13. I would be honored to serve as the Republican representative for District 12. Irene Matiatos, Ph.D Monroe
