Man jailed after assaulting man he claimed approached his wife
MONROE-A 24-year-old Monroe resident has been jailed on $75,000 bond after he was charged with breaking into a house and stabbing a man in the face with a broken bottle. The incident began Monday just before midnight when the communications center at the Monroe Police station received a 911 call about a burglary in progress at a home on David Lane. When officers arrived, a 27-year-old man who told them that a man he did not know had broken into the residence and began assaulting him with a broken bottle. The victim was bleeding heavily from a laceration above one of his eyes and would eventually be brought to the Arden Hill campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. With the victim in their car, officers searched the area. They found the suspect a short time later hiding in some bushes near the scene. He was immediately identified by the victim, police said, Once in custody, police said Oscar Guzman-Toralva, 24, of 120 North Main St. in Monroe, told them that he did this because the victim had asked Guzman-Toralva’s wife if she wanted to go to Middletown or Newburgh to have sex prior to the attack. It is not known whether Guzman-Toralva’s wife and the victim knew each other of it this had been a random encounter. Guzman-Toralva was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B Felony, second-degree assault, both felonies, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He was remanded to the Orange County Jail on $35,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond for a future court date.
