MONROE-Police have charged a Mid Oaks Drive man with six counts of possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child and six counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child, both felonies. Gary Buchanan, 46, also was charged with violating parole following his arrest Sept. 16 and sent to the Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail. Buchanan was arrested in October 2004 on multiple charges of possessing Internet child pornography stemming from a case that originated with the federal Department of Homeland Security. He pleaded guilty to one count and was sentenced to 10 weekends in jail and 10 years probation in May. When probation officers visited Buchanan on Sept. 8, they checked his home computer and discovered what police said were sexually explicit pictures of young children similar to the ones he had when he was first arrested. Additional charges will be lodged after the computer goes through a forensic analysis at the Rockland County Sheriff's Office Computer Crimes Task Force. Buchanan could face an additional felony charge for every photograph he possesses that is "child porn."
