M-W's teams fare well at OM world competition

CENTRAL VALLEY - The three teams representing the Monroe-Woodbury School District performed well at last weekend’s Odyssey of the Mind world competition at the University of Maryland, with one of the high school’s teams earning ninth place in its division for Problem 3: “Le Tour Guide.” Debra Garling, the district’s Odyssey of the Mind coordinator, said the teams were thrilled with the experience. Of particular importance, she noted, was that the “Le Tour Guide” team scored the highest in the spontaneous portion of the competition - with a calculated score of 100. “This made them the’ world champs’ of 'on the spot’ creative thinking.” she said. The other high school team earned 31st place for its presentation of Problem 2: “As Good as Gold berg.” The middle school captured 15th place for its presentation of Problem 5: “Full Circle.” The list of problems for the 2011-2012 school year has already been distributed, with many students already looking at what problems they hope to tackle next year. - Nancy Kriz
