M-W students donate supplies to My Mother's Cupboard in Monroe

Central Valley The Parenting and Teen Life Skills classes at Monroe-Woodbury High School filled gift baskets that were donated to My Mother’s Cupboard in Monroe. The baskets included infant items such as diapers, baby wipes, bibs, socks, toys, and books. Some of the students also contributed blankets, scarves and hats that they had made. This activity culminated a unit on prenatal development that featured information and lessons on nutrition and folic acid; activities regarding infant safety, particularly Shaken Baby Syndrome and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome; and the financial realities of raising a child. In conjunction with this project, the students took home the “Baby Think It Over” simulator that requires care like a real infant does. It cries when it has to be fed, changed or held. This multi-faceted lesson encourages students to make informed decisions and choices as they prepare for the potential future role of a parent.
