M-W senior Annette Wang earns economics proficiency award

Central Valley Monroe-Woodbury High School senior Annette Wang has earned a certificate of achievement from the Economics for Leaders program. Last summer, Annette Wang attended the Economics for Leaders program at Cornell University. Conducted by the Foundation for Teaching Economics, this program helps high school seniors gain a better understanding of how people make choices in commercial societies and how market economies work. Students explore the correlation between economics and leadership through a series of challenging activities. The program is competitive with two applicants for every available space. At the conclusion of the program a rigorous 30-question examination is administered, designed to measure each student’s understanding of basic economic principles. High School Principal David Bernsley announced this week that he has received notification that Annette placed at the level of proficiency on this exam and was formally recognized with a certificate of achievement. “This is an outstanding accomplishment and bodes well for Annette’s college applications and future pursuits,” Bernsley said in the press release announcing the young woman’s accomplishment. “Congratulations to Annette on her hard work and achievement.” Annette also is one of four M-W seniors recently named as commended students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
