M-W sends nine students to All-State Musical Festival
Central Valley - Nine musicians and singers from Monroe-Woodbury High School have successfully auditioned for the New York State School Music Association’s 2005 All-State Music Festival, which will be held Dec. 1-4 in Rochester. The students, their instrument and their ensemble are: Nick Halzack, tuba, concert band alternate. Madeline Huberth, violoncello, string orchestra. Lucie Jaronowski, violin, string orchestra. Sara Rose Johnson, double bass, string orchestra. Meg Kling, flute, symphony orchestra. Meg Kling, soprano, mixed chorus. Brianne Lugo, viola, orchestra alternate. Marli Sussman, soprano, women’s chorus. Sarah Tusch, violin, string orchestra. Kayla Wickes, soprano, women’s chorus. In order to be eligible, students must have performed a Level VI solo at a music association’s Solo Festival last spring. The musical and technical requirements for solos in the Level VI category of music are college level. Because of the highly competitive nature of these auditions - and thousands of students audition - generally only students with scores of 100 and 99 are accepted to perform in an All-State ensemble. The selection of this large number of students from one school district puts Monroe-Woodbury’s music program in the top ranks of schools excelling in music education in New York. All-State students will spend four days immersed in rehearsals with nationally renowned conductors. The All-State String Orchestra, Women’s Chorus and Wind Ensemble concert will be presented on Tuesday, Dec. 3 and the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra performances will be presented at the Eastman Theater on Wednesday, Dec. 4. In the press release announcing the selection, the school district noted the following: Due to the current contingency budget, parents must assume the entire responsibility for transportation, lodging, and participation in this year’s conference.
