Local soldier promoted

Travis Uchacz, son of Gene Uchacz of Highland Mills and Eloise Uchacz of Salisbury Mills, was promoted to the rank of captain in the United States Army on July 1. He is currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq, as a Military Intelligence Officer with the 1-10 Cavalry Squadron, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Hood, Texas. His unit is expected to re-deploy sometime in November 2006 after a yearlong deployment. Captain Uchacz will finish the last seven months of his tour serving as the officer in charge of the Baghdad International Airport. Travis was a 1997 graduate of Washingtonville High School. He graduated from SUNY Brockport in 2001 and completed his Masters Degree at Florida International University. (Photo provided by Gene Uchacz)
