Young Symphony return home following concerts in South Korea
CENTRAL VALLEY Members of the Orange County Youth Symphony recently returned from an eight-day trip to South Korea, where they performed in concert in the countrys capital of Seoul and in Chang Won City, an industrial city of more than one million people located in the southeastern part of the nation.
OCYS Artistic Director and Conductor Huadong Lu, who provided the photographs that appear here, reports that the American musicians also had opportunities to experience Korean culture, sample its cuisine and to mingle with young musicians from South Korea.
This was the youth symphonys third cultural exchange program: OCYS performed in Beijing, China, in April 2010, and in Prague, Czech Republic, in February in 2011.
Meanwhile, the Youth Symphony will present its spring concert on Sunday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. in the Monroe-Woodbury High School Auditorium. The program will include Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, How-down by Copeland, Mil yang - Arirang (a traditional Korean folk song), Raiders March by John Williams, Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar and the finale of Symphony No. 9 by Dvorak.
